1 “WHEN WE WERE SMALL”: This is a new evening-length work by Jodi Lomask, artistic director of the Bay Area dance/circus arts troupe Capacitor, which specializes in big-picture, often cerebral portrayals of the lives we lead. “Small” explores the profound mysteries and experiences of childhood. Described as a “performance installation,” it has the dancers interacting with and getting inspired by Lomask’s “motion sculptures.” The work is also said to be immersive and interactive, meaning the audience can get very close to the action.

The month ended with an Aug. 31 dance party at Oak Meadow Park sponsored by the Los Gatos Community Foundation. Thousands turned out for the free concert that was held to kick off the Labor Day weekend and, organizers hope, a new Los Gatos end-of-summer-tradition. Most Los Gatos schools saw their 2013-14 school year Academic Performance Index scores decrease, with at least one educator saying the tests no longer reflect what’s being taught in classrooms. Schools that saw improved API scores were Leigh High School and Rolling Hills Middle School.
